If you've been keeping up with our blog posts, you may notice that I sign my blogs with "Ice Man" at the bottom.

I'm sure that most of you have been scratching your heads over this, so let me explain.

An Ice Man (Or Ice Woman) is someone who willingly exposes themselves to freezing or sub freezing temperatures on purpose. Before you run away in fright for the nearest blanket, hear me out.

 

This method was recently brought to the mainstream public by a yogi named Wim Hof. He is a funny, down-to-earth average guy from the Netherlands, who experienced major trauma when his wife unexpectedly committed suicide.

He states that after his wife passed away, he was inexplicably drawn to the cold water, the only place he found peace. He knew that he felt strong, happy, and healthy from regularly exposing himself to the cold.

Now, his new mission in life was born; to make the rest of the world feel the same way!

 

He brought his feelings to doctors, scientists, and universities, where he has proven time and time again that his claims are true. 
 
What these professional researchers found was that regularly engaging your autonomic nervous system disrupts our homeostasis and comfort zone to develop strength, happiness, and health, thus building our antifragility.

When you voluntarily & regularly expose yourself to disruptions such as cold exposure, you will be better prepared for when unexpected disruptions arise in other areas of your life.

Our physiology does not want to be comfortable. These deep, primal systems need to be regularly engaged in order to stay strong and healthy.

 

Other side effects of cold exposure include:

Improving the immune system
Strengthening willpower & memory
Working the blood vessels which results in improved cardiac function

I personally practice the 'Wim Hof Method' every day, and have experienced all of these benefits first hand.

My chiropractor recommended I do this in the shower by alternating the water from hot to cold and vice versa. Do you agree?
